Biovation Labs Boost Production with Horizontal Batch Mixer and Bag Dump Screener

Located in West Valley City, Utah, Biovation Labs produces a wide range of dietary supplements and nutraceutical products, including formulations for the top-selling Nugenix® brand at GNC. As production volumes increase and quality standards become more stringent, Director of Operations Patrick Browne turned to Kason and Marion who are now part of the Akona Process Solutions group to support their evolving manufacturing needs with high performance screening and mixing equipment.

Upgraded Screening Capabilities

To streamline their production workflows, Biovation recognized the need to move beyond the limitations of their existing 24-inch sifter. Browne selected a 60-inch Vibroscreen® circular screener with a customized modified base to fit their plant layout.

When looking to further expand their production again and simplify their material screening and sifting, the director of operations turned Kason again for a 30 in bag dump vibratory screener. Biovation soon realised a significant reduction in loading time with bag dump stations which lead to two further orders that line with a horizontal batch mixer.

“I was looking for a solution to simplify our multi-step sifting process. Kason’s bag dump stations fit the bill and saved us considerable time. After seeing the benefits of the first unit, we ordered two more. They’ve been a great addition.”

Faster, Consistent Mixing and Reduced Footprint

When it came time to replace previous mixing equipment at the facility, Browne evaluated several options and chose a 60-cubic-foot mixer from Marion Process Solutions another brand which forms the Akona Process Solutions group.

The goal was twofold: reduce mixing time and improve product consistency without damaging the integrity of the ingredients. Despite downsizing from a 75-cubic-foot unit from another manufacturer, the Marion mixer delivered equivalent throughput, while cutting mix times dramatically from up to 18 minutes to just 3 minutes per batch.

“We’re getting a better mix in a fraction of the time,” Browne added. “Marion is very approachable and easy to work with. They are more personable than other companies. We have another mixer that will need to be replaced soon and will be adding another Marion to the mix.”

Long-Term Value Through Support and Reliability

Browne emphasized that choosing equipment partners is not just about performance specifications. It is also about trust, service, and long-term support. From the start, both Marion and Kason teams invested time with Biovation, ensuring proper installation, operator training, and smooth commissioning.

“When we first started the projects, their teams were engaged even without knowing whether we’d end up making a purchase from them,” Browne noted. “They spent ample time with my team to make sure that they were trained and comfortable with breakdown and cleaning processes.”

Future-Ready Processing for a Growing Market

By partnering with Akona Process Solutions brands Kason and Marion, Biovation Labs has enhanced both the efficiency and quality of its supplement production lines. One feature Biovation especially appreciated was the ability to integrate weighing and batching with load cells, enabling precise batch processing.
