Dekura, a leading PVC-U recycler based in Telford, UK, supports over 1,000 window and door fabricators nationwide by transforming post-consumer and fabrication waste into valuable raw materials. As part of their commitment to a more sustainable future, Dekura sought to improve their processing capabilities and operational efficiency.
Meeting Growing Demands for Sustainable Recycling
Dekura processes waste from PVC-U windows, doors, roofline, and rainwater goods, reducing it to specific sizes for further processing. The facility uses powerful magnets to remove ferrous materials, followed by manual inspection and color sorting, before converting the material into pellets or powder for use in new PVC-U products. To keep up with increasing volumes and maintain high standards, Dekura needed to enhance their conveying and handling systems.
Integrated Bulk Handling and Conveying Solution
Akona Process Solutions, through its Spiroflow brand, supplied Dekura with a comprehensive system including:
- 2 Bulk Bag Unloaders
- 2 Rigid Bin Dischargers
- 3 Bulk Bag Fillers
- 1 Fountain Blender
- 10 Flexible Screw Conveyors
The equipment was designed to integrate seamlessly with Dekura’s existing PLC-controlled pulverising and compounding lines. Additionally, bag massagers were recommended to efficiently discharge compacted or non-free flowing material.
“We are pleased with the design and workmanship of the equipment. Our operators appreciate the system, it practically runs itself.”

Operational Advantages and Environmental Benefits
By transitioning from positive pressure pneumatic and vacuum conveying systems to flexible screw conveyors, Dekura significantly reduced operating costs and environmental impact. The flexible screw conveyors operate quietly, require no filtration, and continuously re-mix material during transfer, an essential feature for handling blended materials.
“The original plant was noisy, expensive to run, and required a dust filtration system. The flexible screw conveyors are quieter, more efficient, and don’t need filtration. Plus, they improve our material blend consistency.” Sean Heath, Dekura
Empowering the Circular Economy with Advanced Processing
With this new system, Dekura has strengthened its position as a leader in PVC-U recycling, supporting the circular economy by transforming waste into high-quality raw materials ready for the next generation of products.
